1.Firstly,Amy is always Mr.Godwin's beloved wife undoubtedly.Secondly,Mr.Godwin didn't find a worthwhile reason to let Amy go until Laurier's apperance,even it has 7 years past.
2.I consider that the firelight has4 implied meanings.
Firstly,it can be the fervency love between man and woman just like the firelight dance around the room.
Secondly,firelight is a kind of selfless love from a mother to her daughter as Laurier spare no efforts top teach,care for and save her little girl in this movie.
Thirdly,i think it can be a group of women's strong desire to go after their own lives through learning and some skills in the 19th century.
Last but not the least,when Mr.Godwin ends Amy's life ,we noticed his action that he puts out the firelight,which means he has made up his mind to do so even it is illegal somehow and ready to kindle another new firelight of life. May God forgive him.
