Plot Summary:A cat belonging to Mr and Mrs K describes the strange behavior of its master and mistress with the help of a fable about a mouse who is heading irrevocably towards a trap. Mr K, a valuer of deceased persons' property, has taken some jewelry and hidden it in his flat. His fear prevents him from selling his cache, however. Just when he is adorning his wife with some of the jewels, Mr B, a curious neighbor, pays them a visit.
