Plot Summary:A documentary film that attempts to capture a portrait of Anthony Palliser, one of the premier figurative painters alive today. Through interviews with Palliser and with some of his most famous subjects, we want to find what it is in Anthony's process that leads to the creation of paintings that hang in prestigious galleries, buildings, and collections. Palliser's portraits and landscapes are studies of the heart and the human condition, and this is evident in the emotion he conveys onto canvas. He continues this pursuit in an art world, and to be honest, an art market, dominated by contemporary artists whose work is non-figurative, conceptual, and more often than not completely void of emotion or feeling. Palliser says that "when I paint a Landscape I think of it as a king of portrait and when I paint a Portrait it is a form of landscape," and we will explore this philosophy given a rare opportunity to travel with Palliser, revisiting some of his former subjects and the landscapes he has painted, and to capture the intimate relationship between painter, subject, and friends. With Palliser, we aim to draw the portrait of a portrait painter as he revisits his work intellectually, emotionally, and physically. It is the story of an artist who has gained critical and commercial success despite bucking the conceptual trend of contemporary art. Anthony Palliser has pursued an artistic journey that has resulted in remarkable achievements, attained only in one way: by painting his life.
