Plot Summary:After losing his job, mine worker Jacques Hébert decides to emigrate to Canada with his wife and his infant daughter Ginette. Unfortunately the two \"women\" of his life are taken away from him when they are swept overboard from the ship they have been sailing on. Lonely and awfully dispirited, Jacques joins a group of trappers. Later on, he becomes the assistant of a physician. One day, a female patient is brought to the hospital where he works.
