Plot Summary:A chronicle of the lives of the inhabitants of the Bavarian village Sachrang during the years of the Napoleonic wars (1791-1814). The main character is Peter Müllner, who has been away to the big city of Munich to study there, and who is seen as a rebel and reformer when he returns to the village. Not all of the villagers see eye to eye with him and his modern ideas.
